If you happen to be looking for a new position or possibly being interviewed for a better position where you are presently employed, don’t make the common error of quibbling over your starting salary. This foolish error has lost many people the big opportunity of a lifetime. If the position you seek is one that you know you can throw your whole heart into, take it – even if you have to work for nothing until you deliver a sample of your goods.

Every employer will be quick to tell you that effective people are hard to find. When they become aware of how valuable your service is to their company, you will be properly compensated. The amount of money you receive will be in proportion to the quality and quantity of the work you perform.

There are many people who will disagree with this fundamental principle of compensation and be quick to say so. However, you must disregard their comments. One thing is certain; these individuals will not be any form of competition for you. The person who says, “I wouldn’t do that because I’m not being paid to do it,” is never a dangerous competitor for any job.

Watch out for the person who remains at their work until it is finished, and performs a little more than is expected of them. As Andrew Carnegie once said, “That is the person who will challenge you at the post and pass you at the grandstand.”

If you doubt what I have suggested, pick up the biography of anyone who has left their mark on the scrolls of history. This is how every one of them approached their work and it paid handsome dividends for them. It will for you as well.
