Your own beliefs and behaviors are great predictors of your success than any fluctuation in the marketplace. Even when the newspapers splash the word recession across the front page, you can write your own success story.

Master the Art of “Inverse Paranoia”

Start by becoming an “Inverse Paranoid”. What I mean by this is, believe that every event in your life is the seed for your greater good; something meant to enrich you, empower you or advance your cause.

Imagine how much easier it would be to succeed in life if you were constantly expecting the world to support you and bring you opportunity.

You can easily verify this belief for yourself. Just think about the last time that a terrible event turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

A big blessing for me came during the 1970’s when I lost my job. I was working at the Job Corps Center in Clinton, Iowa, pioneering new ways to teach underachieving students. One day the word came down that the center was being relocated – and I was being laid off.

While attending a workshop at the W. Clement & Jesse V. Stone Foundation in Chicago, I shared my predicament with the presenter. He happened to be vice president of the foundation, and he immediately offered me a job working with inner-city black and Latino kids.

I accepted the offer, and what I got in return was a bigger salary, an unlimited budget, and a laboratory for learning the success principles that transformed my life and launched a new career path.

Ask Yourself: What Opportunity Exists Here?

Take the fast track to inspiration by constantly asking yourself: What’s the opportunity here? Make this a habit, and you’ll stay calm and centered during any event that seems like a setback.

The beauty of this question is that it triggers your mind to respond with positive suggestions. Compare these to the useless information you get by asking yourself the questions such as: Why did this happen to me? Or, Who’s to blame for this mess?

If you get passed over for a promotion or your retirement account takes a hit in the stock market, remember to ask: What’s the opportunity here? – or one of its inspiring variations:
•	What can I learn from this event?
•	What will I do differently from now on?
•	Who can I turn to as a mentor or coach?
•	What’s my next action?

Remember the Three Things You Control

In a way, the economy is just a vague and sometimes ambiguous idea. It refers in a general way to trillions of dollars of goods, services and products by billions of people across the planet. When you face a financial challenge, it is the vast, impersonal economy at work? Or is it your personal economy, which you can directly control?

You can’t always count on the economy, but you can always rely on yourself.

Remember, you have absolute control over three things in your life:
1.	The thoughts you think
2.	The images your visualize
3.	The actions you take (including what you say to others)

Your life experience is simply the sum total of the choices you make in these three areas. And you can attract new results at any time by making new choices. Use the ideas and exercise found in this article to do just that!

I believe that in the 21st Century it is so important to have multiple skills. But what I also find is that if you are already in sales, network marketing or have an entrepreneurial business (or plan to in the future); you can gain the needed skills for the future while you create your income now.

Here’s my short list for on the job training, so that you can learn while you earn.

1) SALES
I began my journey with sales, which of course dynamically changed my life back at age 25. The first year I multiplied my income by five. I was raised in farm country. I knew how to milk cows, but it didn’t pay well. But sales altered the course of my life, learning to present a valid product in the marketplace, talk about its virtues and get somebody to say “yes.” And then give them good service.

2) RECRUITING
Then came recruiting, how to expand my business, build an organization. We have all heard the question, is it better to have one person selling a $1000 or have 100 people selling $10? If you ask me, I’ll take the 100 at $10. Recruiting, the ability to multiply your efforts, once mastered, is one of life and leadership’s greatest time management resources.

3) ORGANIZING
Then I learned organizing. Keeping your own schedule can be difficult at times, but now you are having to balance multiple tasks and people to get maximum results. But you will find that the payoff is massive once you have tapped into the synergy and momentum of group dynamics and teamwork.

4) PROMOTION
Next is promotion. First it’s the spring campaign and then the fall campaign, and then it’s this month’s objective’s campaign. You never know when it’s going to click for someone to want or need to buy from you or be a part of what you are doing, so having the offer or the special or the contest going when they’re ready can make all the difference.

5) RECOGNITION
Then it’s the recognition. Some people work harder for recognition than they do for money. It’s the chance to belong. Getting people to do something that ordinarily on their own, they wouldn’t think of doing. They could, but they don’t think of it. You come along with a little promotion for this month or this quarter and everything changes for them, and I found that paid big money.

6) COMMUNICATION
Then I learned communication. How to do the training, how to do the teaching, and probably the greatest gift of all is learning how to inspire with words. Inspire people to see themselves better than they are; all of those gifts, all of those skills. Being the voice that tells them they have made a wise decision and here’s why.

Now, I believe with just this little short list I’ve given you, you’ll be equipped. We’ve all watched what has happened the last 15 years. The guy had one skill – the company downsizes. His division is eliminated and since he only had one skill, now he is vulnerable. He’s wandering around saying, “Oh my, the last few years I should have taken some classes that would have taught me a couple of more things and I wouldn’t be here in this vulnerable position.”

So my admonition — learn some multiple skills, or should we say, back-up skills for the 21st Century and no better place to learn them than in what your already doing now.

With all the constant attention and focus on what is going on in the world economy, it is no surprise to find people who are searching for other options to supplement their income rather than just relying on their job as a primary source of income. There are a number of things one should look into when considering starting a home business. This article aims to outline some of the reasons why working from home or starting a home business is something that can make a positive difference in your life.

If you are in a situation where you looking for additional income, wanting to have more time for yourself or with your family and loved ones, are frustrated with having to trade your precious time for money or are concerned with they way the economy is with job losses or downsizing, then you should explore the option of starting a home-based business.

Running a business from home is a cost-effective option for a start-up business. With the advent of the internet, there are many people who have given up the corporate grind and have set up successful businesses working from the comfort of their own home. This is increasingly becoming the preferred option as people can create multiple sources of income through affiliate marketing, niche marketing, pay per click advertizing all from their living room or bedroom without the hassles of being stuck in traffic, listening the moaning or griping of fellow colleagues or putting up with a demanding boss.

If the thought of being your own boss and having greater flexibility during your day appeals to you, then starting a home business may be a good option for you. While the ultimate aim of running a business is for it to provide you with the means to enjoy the life you choose, mainly the financial rewards, other intangible benefits are just as important. These include reducing in travel expenses and virtually eliminating travel time, and tax benefits as you will be able to claim a lot more expenses operating as a business than you would if you worked as an individual. A home business will also offer you the benefit of being able to share in the little things like having breakfast with you family in the morning or seeing off you children to school and scheduling your day the way you want to.

When considering starting a home business, the two main benefits are easy to start, and low set-up and operating costs. When you are deciding which business to start, it can be a time-consuming process as there are so many opportunities available today. It is very important that you do your due diligence and invest the time during the planning phase. During the planning and deciding phase you may want to consider the following:

1. What am I passionate about that I can fulfill a need in the marketplace?

2. What are my skills, strengths and characteristics?

3. Do I want to provide a product or a service?

4. Do I have the capital I need to start or will I need financial partner or investor?

5. What would I like to achieve from my business and why do I want it?

More than anything else, the mindset required for success in a home business is far different than when you are working in traditional job. While the thought of being able to provide for yourself and your family may be of concern to you, recognize that the rewards of running a successful home business far exceeds any disadvantages you may encounter. All successful business owners will have one thing in common and that is the desire and will to win. If you eliminate any thoughts of failure from your mind and focus all your attention and energy on being successful, then you are more than halfway towards having a successful home business. The rest of your success will depend on your understanding of business fundamentals and the application or implementation of relevant success principles and strategies.

Like with all things in life, success is possible and can be guaranteed if you follow what others have done to achieve success in their field. That’s where the saying comes from, “If I can do it, you can do it!” To be a successful home-business owner, you need to understand that you must be self motivated and be willing to put in the work to ensure your success. You won’t have a boss checking up on you – it will be totally up to you to manage your daily activities and have a system in place that will support you in grow your home business.

That leads to an important point when deciding which business to start. The home business you get involved with must have a marketing system in place so you don’t have to get concerned about what to do and how to do it. You also need to ensure that you have a marketing budget and your initial business revenue should be reinvested in more marketing schemes. Other factors to consider are whether you get a website to begin marketing immediately, if there is any automated system available to stay in regular contact with your potential clients, and the training system that is in place.

As more and more people are entering the home business market, now is a great time to get involved in running your own business from home. Studies will show that people who have set up successful home businesses are happier, wealthier and more fulfilled in life. You now have the opportunity to investigate a home business opportunity in one of the fastest growing industries in the world.
